NEWESD 101 is proud to celebrate two northeast Washington school districts for receiving Purple Star District Awards in recognition of their commitment to military-connected students and families.

Cheney Public Schools and Medical Lake School District were recently honored by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for creating supportive school environments that help military students and families feel welcomed, understood, and connected.

The Purple Star District Award recognizes school systems that demonstrate a strong commitment to serving military-connected students through intentional practices, dedicated support, and an understanding of the unique challenges that can come with military life, including frequent moves and transitions.

This recognition reflects the care, leadership, and student-centered work happening in both districts. It also highlights the importance of building school communities where every student and family feels seen and supported.
